Nepal: Scenes of Kathmandu & Swayambhunath (The Monkey Temple)

The streets of Kathmandu are filled with exotic sights and interesting people of all ages.

Swayambhunath Stupa (aka The Monkey Temple) is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site filled with incredible Buddha statues, colorful prayer wheels and religious images, many smaller shrines, and of course, plenty of monkeys.

Monkey see - and monkey doo.

This beautiful lady below is carving an intricate image onto slate. Although many vendors are selling these around Kathmandu, her smile drew us in, and we were soon purchasing one directly from the artist herself.

Ringing the bell was very special and loud!

The Buddha eyes on the stupa are captivating from all angles.

There's incredible ancient art and carvings strewn all about the area.
We weren't sure if this is an image of the deity of toe nail biting - or foot sniffing?

A beautiful carved doorway

Spinning the largest prayer wheel we have ever seen.
