Mexico: Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres is a Mexican island in the Caribbean Sea. It's a short 30 minute ferry boat ride (8 miles off the coast) from CancĂșn. The laid-back destination is known for beaches and for snorkeling and scuba diving on the surrounding coral reefs. There's a nice mix of locals and travelers and since the island is small, it's easy and fun to get around using rental golf carts.

The Grateful Globetrotters (us) had visited Isla Mujeres fifteen years ago back in 2003 and this was our first time returning since then!

We met up with our old friends Ritchie and Lori while on Isla, and had some laughs and explorations together.

Our timing was great because our visit fell over Carnival time, which was celebrated with gusto for several nights in the town square.

And, we celebrated Stevo's 59th birthday while we were on the island as well!

It was a brief three-day stay and it served as the "gateway" to our first Dead & Company's Playin' in the Sand (PITS-1) event on the mainland (near Tulum) - see next post!
